Learn the Georgian alphabet

Despite apparences, the Georgian alphabet is pretty easy to learn. You can learn it here in eleven lessons. Each lesson presents 3 or 4 letters and includes many exercises where you have to transcribe Georgian words, mostly foreign words you can already understand. Among the many romanization systems that exist for Georgian, I chose the national system: it uses spelling familiar to English speakers (such as sh and ch), it does not include special characters you cannot type on your keyboard, and it is very close to the English transcriptions found in Georgia, e.g. on road signs.

Some exercices are accompanied by audio files. There are few recordings because it is difficult to find freely usable audio, but I’m working on it.

Do not simply read passively the examples, but try to write them down with a pen (see the appendix about handwriting). You will remember the shape of the letters much more effectively.
